SKS’ lawyers recommended in Legal 500

We are pleased to announce that SK&S and our experts individually have once again been recommended by the highly recognized worldwide guide Legal500.
In the latest edition of the rankings we have been recommended in the following categories, including 3 categories where we were received the title Top-Tier Firm.

  • Competition/antitrust: The ‘respected’, Krzysztof Kanton leads the team at Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak, which is ‘best in class’, and has gained The Swatch Group (Polska) and Schneider Electric as new clients. Highlights included advising Auchan on merger control proceedings before the Polish Competition Authority following its acquisition of Real Polska. It also acted for PKN Orlen in its appeal against a PLN52m fine imposed for alleged price fixing; the fine was reduced to PLN1m. Jarosław Łukawski is also recommended.
  • Dispute resolution: Dariusz Skuza leads the team at Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak, which has gained a number of new clients in the construction industry. It is currently representing SRB Civil Engineering, John Sisk & Son and Roadbridge in litigation against the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) to increase payment for the construction of the A1 motorway. Rafał Waszkiewicz is acting for Mostostal Warszawa in a number of construction disputes against the state treasury and the GDDKiA.
  • Intellectual property: Szymon Gogulski and Ewa Skrzydło-Tefelska co-head Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak’s team, which is ‘strong on unfair competition cases’ and is also noted for its anti-counterfeiting work. Highlights included advising BSA members on copyright enforcement related to software piracy. Skrzydło-Tefelska is ‘a specialist in IP’.

Krzysztof Kanton and Dariusz Skuza were both awarded with the title: Leading individuals.

In addition, the following attorneys were also recognised in their area of legal practice:

  • Banking and finance: Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak advised WireCo on the Polish aspects of its $480m refinancing by a consortium of banks. Marcin Olechowski co-ordinates the firm’s banking law and financial regulation practice and is experienced in representing clients before the Polish financial markets regulator.
  • Corporate and M&A: Robert Gawałkiewicz leads a ‘very reputable’ team at Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak and, along with Krzysztof Kanton, advised Neste Oil on the sale of its network of gas stations to Shell Polska. The firm also acted for PKN Orlen on its acquisition of a 49% stake in Petrolot from Polish Airlines LOT.
  • Employment: New clients for Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak include Orangina Schweppes, Health Care REIT and Royal Imtech. Roch Pałubicki’s team advised Royal Imtech in relation to a large-scale employee fraud. Monika Krzyszkowska-Dąbrowska joined the team as a senior associate in December 2012.
  • Energy and natural resources: Highlights for Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak included providing ongoing advice to PKN Orlen, and advising Wheelabrator Technologies on the development of a PPP waste-to-energy (incineration) project in Poznań. Krzysztof Cichocki leads the team.
